Join me, Jessica, in the fight against cancer with Kate Cuts For Cancer.

Click here to see the photos of everyone getting their Kate Cuts!

I'll be cutting my hair like Kate Gosselin from Jon and Kate Plus 8 to raise money for a dear friend of mine and the Hess Cancer Foundation. If you would like to cut your hair with me, I would love the support! Just enter below and I'll be in contact with you. The Spa Club will come in-studio one morning for the cuts and all the money will go towards the cause. It will be the last week of September which is Lymphoma Cancer awareness month.

I'd like to tell you a little bit about my good family friend, Amy, who is going through a lot right now. She is only 33. She is a wife and mother. She has 3 kids, ages 6, 4, and almost 1 year old. I've known Amy for 10 years. She is someone that I look up to. She is an amazing person who is there for everyone. She is truly a person that lights up a room. When Amy smiles, her whole face smiles. When I think of an angel on earth, I think of Amy. She is fun. She is smart. She is loving and she is going to beat this cancer! Imagine being a parent with Cancer, some days she can't see or touch the kids. It breaks my heart to think about it. When she undergoes her bone marrow transplant she will have to be in an apartment away from her family because her immune system will be down. She might have to stay away from her kids for 6 months. Bone marrow costs $250,000. I want to help Amy and her family raise some money so when she is well and the cancer is gone, they won't have to worry about bills on their one income.

I've set up an account at Wells Fargo under Kate Cuts For Cancer and would appreciate any donations for Amy. A portion of the proceeds will also go to the Hess Cancer Foundation. They provide financial support to families who can not afford funeral cost for their children after a battle against cancer. There are tons of efforts and money that is donated to finding cures for cancer. http://www.hesscancer.org

Amy's sister, Karen, recently sent me this update:

Cancer is a sneaky, mean little disease and Amy is a rare case...
As it turns out we are now dealing now with Hodgkins Lymphoma and not just NHL! Amy's doctors think that she probably had both HL and NHL at the same time, but the NHL was so wide spread and her biopsied mass so large the HL was not seen and now that is what is showing up in her lung. They informed her that in the 2000 cases they see a year only 3-4 have both HL and NHL simultaneously.

So there is a new plan of attack...
Amy will undergo 2-3 rounds of a new type of chemo, ICE, which will require her to remain in the hospital 3-4 days each round. Tomorrow she will get her central line put back in and start her chemo! A stem cell transplant is also necessary. The bone marrow is where the stem cells come from so basically she is in need of a bone marrow transplant. They will not be able to use her own so we will begin testing family members in the very near future. She will also be meeting with a new doctor to discuss the bone marrow transplant. - By, Amy's sister, Karen
